LA Noire has gone straight in at number one in the UK games chart
LA Noire is the UK's highest selling new videogame across all formats.

LA Noire, the new title from Rockstar Games, shot to the top of the UK videogames chart in its first week on sale.

In the process, it became the fastest selling new games property in history and matched the sales figures for Red Dead Redemption, the blockbuster title released by Rockstar last year.

Sales of LA Noire on the Xbox 360 were marginally higher than the PS3 version, with the cinematic detective game claiming the top two places on the individual format chart.

Last week's biggest seller Brink slipped to number three in the multi-format games chart, with Lego Pirates of the Caribbean taking the number two spot.

Developed by Sydney-based firm Team Bondi in conjunction with Rockstar, LA Noire is set in 1940s Los Angeles and challenges players to solve a series of mysterious murders.

The title incorporates MotionScan technology - a new technique used to capture the real-life facial expressions and movements of actors for ultra-realistic gameplay.
