JD Sports 'lands Nickelson licensing deal'
A licensing deal with Nickelson has reportedly been signed by JD Sports Fashion.

JD Sports Fashion is believed to have expanded its brand portfolio further by sealing a licensing deal with Nickelson, the young men's fashion brand.

According to Drapers, the high street chain will design, produce and sell Nickelson clothing under licence from the Ben Sherman Group as a result of the agreement.

The likes of Sonneti and The Duffer of St George are among the brands that have already given licensing rights to JD.

It is currently not known whether Nickelson will now be exclusive to JD stores, or if it will continue to serve its existing retail partners, although Verdict Research retail analyst Carly Syme said JD is likely to prefer the former option.

She added: "JD is looking at ways to increase its sales. It has got the money to invest, so it will help smaller brands to expand and grow."

During the five weeks to January 7th 2012, the company saw its gross like-for-like sales in the UK and Ireland rise by 1.6 per cent.
