ESPN to be free for all viewers for one weekend
Freeview and Sky customers will be among those who can watch ESPN for free during a February weekend.

Millions of British sports fans will be able to watch ESPN free of charge for one weekend in February under a new promotion from the US broadcaster.

From 06:00 GMT on Friday February 3rd 2012 to 06:00 the following Monday, all Sky, Top Up TV and BT Vision customers in the UK will have the chance to enjoy the channel and its high-definition variant as part of the ESPN Free Weekend initiative, sponsored by the Nokia Lumia smartphone.

Even Freeview households can take advantage of the promotion, meaning around 20 million homes across the country will gain free access to the channel over the weekend.

In contrast, the station's typical monthly reach stands at 2.6 million individuals.

Highlights of the weekend's schedule include the Premier League match between Manchester City and Fulham on the Saturday.

Jeroen Oerlemans, ESPN vice president of TV channels in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said: "This is a great opportunity for us to introduce [our content] to millions more [viewers] and let them sample the programming ESPN has on offer."
