Comet predicts busiest online shopping day ever will come next week
The retailer is expecting shoppers to flock to its website next week.

Comet is expecting to experience its busiest ever day for online shopping next week.

The electrical goods retailer predicted more than 300,000 people will visit its website on Monday (December 6th 2010), up 15 per cent on the highest traffic it recorded in a single day last year.

It has also forecast a 20 per cent year-on-year increase in sales on this date.

The company explained the first Monday in December has proven to be its busiest online shopping day for the past five years and it sees no reason for this trend to come to an end in 2010.

Among the items Comet is predicting will enjoy the strongest sales in the run-up to Christmas are the Apple iPad, Xbox Kinect and 3D TV sets.

"We expect 2010 to be our biggest ever year online as customers take advantage of amazing deals on gadgets and electricals before the VAT rise in January," said commercial and marketing director Bob Darke.

Comet's announcement comes after security firm Symantec claimed Brits will spend £7.4 billion online this Christmas.
