£50 HD TV to be available from Asda
From Boxing Day, a £50 HD TV will be available from Asda.

Asda has announced it will begin selling a 720p high-definition (HD) TV in stores and online from Boxing Day.

In a bid to capitalise on the traditional post-Christmas sales market, the supermarket giant will stock the widescreen Venturer model, which comes with a Freeview tuner, stereo sound and one HDMI input.

According to the grocer, the low-cost HD TV is the perfect solution to avoid the hassle of scheduling clashes over the festive season, such as EastEnders and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which will be screened at the same time on New Year's Day.

Michael Arnott, HD TV buyer at Asda, commented: "We're glad to be doing our bit to support domestic harmony this Christmas."

Figures from Ofcom show 93 per cent of households had digital TV in the third quarter of last year, while the number of HD sets in the UK during the first three months of 2010 stood at 24 million.
